However, the major difference is that the BitTorrent “viewers” come from all over the world.Ī factor that plays a role in the rise of unauthorized downloading of TV-shows is that most people simply don’t see it as stealing. This number is getting awfully close to the average number of viewers on TV in the US. Some episodes of popular TV-shows such as “Lost”, “Prison Break” and “Heroes” get up to 10 million downloads per episode, spread over hundreds of sites. It is safe to say that BitTorrent is slowly replacing Tivo. The second most popular torrent category based on the number of downloaders and uploaders is Video (15.7%), followed by Games (8.6%), Music (7.8) and of course XXX (6.0%). Nearly 50% of all the people who use BitTorrent at any given point in time do this to download a TV-show, even though the number of available torrents are much lower than for Music or Video.
TV-series are by far the most shared files on BitTorrent. So please try to be reasonably cool and don’t freak out.
